Artisans at the 2009 Sterling Renaissance Festival
Sterling, NY, May 2009 - Unique handcrafted art wares will be showcased at this year’s 33rd Annual Sterling Renaissance Festival. The 2009 season runs seven weekends, July 4th through August 16th, in Sterling, New York along the shores of Lake Ontario. More than eighty highly skilled, full-time artisans and craftsmen are chosen by a jury committee to practice and display their wares at the Festival. Selections are made based upon the quality of products and relevance to the Elizabethan time period. “We are very careful in selecting artisans,” said Garry Izzo, Creative Director at the Sterling Renaissance Festival. “We want to ensure that visitors have a unique and satisfying shopping experience.”
Selected artisans display their works in decorative booths throughout the village of Warwickshire—many provide demonstrations of techniques used in the crafting of their wares. All pieces are designed and handcrafted by the artisan themselves who are present throughout the entire Festival season.
This year’s featured items will include custom-minted coins, created by the Heinen family; a wide selection of leather goods, by Potomac Leather; sculpted leather masks by Richard Thompson; hand-made flutes and drums by Fire Om Earth Studio; jewelry from ostrich and emu egg shells by Claire Ludovico and TJ Deluca; flowered garlands by Linda New-Craig; hand-blown glass by R. Foster Holcombe; and gold and silver jewelry by Cole Sheckler.
Artistic services include Everlasting Braids by Gwendolyn McLaughlin and costume rentals by Laura Roe.
